At the beginning of the 20th century, artist Eugène Frey invented the tehcnique of the Light Set projections. As a result of this system which was inherited from magic lanterns, he projected and superimposed his paintings on glass, animating them on the curtains at the back of the stage. Theatre and cinema thus created a magical fusion in which art and technique resulted in the discovery of new territories of experimentation.
Since then, cinema has become the artists playground, a place of investigation of the relationships between the public, the apparatus and the spaces of projection.
